SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
BARE IRON SUBSTRATE - Two issues:

- Calamine
- Rust

In both cases substrates shall be completely cleaned as follows:

Manual or machine metal brushing
Brushing or sanding
Sandblasting

N.B.: after preparation the substrate must be coated by rust preventer as soon as possible, in order to prevent ferric oxide (rust) growth.

COATED IRON SUBSTRATE

- Rust
- Blistering of the previous coating

Carry out as follows:

- Rust removal
- Removal of grease, oil and dirt
- Removal of the previous coatings (if they show wearing and damages,
   bubbles, etc...)
- Standard sanding of the previous coatings if they
show a good attachment and preservation state

Choose one of the following techniques according to the operations to be carried out:

- Sandblasting (Sa2 - 2,5 sandblasting degree is recommended)
- Brushing or sanding
- Cleaning and washing with thinners

N.B.: after preparation operations the substrate must be coated by rust preventer as soon as possible, in order to prevent ferric oxide (rust) growth.
