New wooden substrate
Carry a complete sanding out before any painting/coating operation.
Resin-based wooden substrates: their surfaces (especially the most difficult parts like knots and grains) must be degreased by laying off a cloth saturated with nitrocellulose- or trichlorethylene-based thinners.
Old wooden substrate
Carry out the former or the latter operation according to the state of the substrate:
- Removal of the previous paint/coatings by mechanical (sanding)
or chemical (stripping) treatment if they show some
cracks, wrinkles, blobs or blisters.
- Sand the previous coatings if they are is in a good state or only little chalking
Then, it is recommended to lay off a cloth as saturated with thinners, in order to eliminate any dust, grease and dirt.
N.B.: Paints and enamels must be completely removed before applying an extender on a substrate.
